Week 16: Goodbye for Now

Hello everyone and welcome back to the last week of my internship blog! This week I continued to print with the slate and I think the results speak for themselves! I tried some simple botanical illustrations on the coasters that I think really matched the style of slate. I also did a design for the larger plate in a more linear style that I also think really showed off how cleanly you can print on the slate material. Hopefully now that we have examples of how beautifully you can dress up these slate products, people will be inspired to get their own custom printed slate coasters or plates!

Other than the slate this week I caught up on all the custom printing orders, making sure everything was finished up for when I leave. I printed things from fabric labels heading to Denmark, to custom wine corks for a gentleman’s vineyard off the coast of Tuscany. It's amazing for me to see the wide variety of customers the Cork House gets from all across the globe, and this week’s focus on the custom printing really reminded me of that. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of working with customers and bringing their ideas to life, it's very satisfying to see customers get excited when they get something so personalized!

Now that it's come to the end of my last week I’m sad to be leaving, although I’m excited to see what my new school year will bring. I’m entering my 4th and final year of the Bachelor’s of Illustration degree at Sheridan College here in Oakville, Ontario and I believe through my internship experience I’m more confident in my skills heading into the next few months. Having real life opportunities to design and illustrate has been a huge opportunity for me and I see my improvements in the different things I accomplished throughout the summer. I’m also very grateful for the opportunities to have my work published in two different magazines, and I’m very happy I shared that personal milestone with the Cork House.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to read the blog over the past 16 weeks! I hope you enjoyed learning about my experiences and all the different wonderful qualities of cork along with me. I look forward to any opportunities I have to work with the Cork House in the future, but until then, I hope you all have a wonderful end to your summer!
